The Kappa CTD Series Finishing System is the latest addition to the highly popular Kappa product family. With its Automatic Centering, Shape Modification, and Tilted Drilling features, Kappa CTD integrates the most critical process functions into one, simple to use, top-of-the line, versatile system that provides practices with an edge that drives performance to the next level.

The new Kappa CTD system consists of the Kappa CT Tracer and Blocker and the Kappa CTD Edger and Drill. Designed to meet the requirements of the most challenging retail practices, the Kappa CTD system design and technology enables the practice manager to reduce non-value added steps and deliver the highest quality lenses to the market at the lowest cost of ownership. Combine its cutting edge design and the latest technology with the expertise from a true market leader and Kappa CTD is the best option for maximizing a return on investment.
  KAPPA CT TRACER AND BLOCKER
The Kappa CT Tracer and Blocker elevate layout and blocking to a new level with its intelligent Centering Technology. What used to be the most complicated part of the finishing process is now reduced to a simple touch of a button. With powerful software and little ingenuity, Kappa CT will accurately locate the optical center, bifocal segment or fitting cross, and then precisely place a block in the prescribed location. Furthermore, Kappa CT offers the flexibility to customize frame shapes that meets today’s latest eyewear trends and detects drill holes for rimless mounts.
  AUTOMATIC TRACING
Automatic Binocular Tracing with High Performance Mode enables a complete frame trace including the DBL measurement and frame groove profile in less than 20 seconds. These exclusive features simplify and improve the lens fit in complex frames. And for today’s trendy small frames, Kappa CT accurately traces frames with a B dimension as small as 18 mm. The tracing software stores over 200 jobs, and Kappa CT may be configured to allow uploads to host systems for additional storage.
Analyze a single vision lens for sphere, cylinder and optical center.
Detect centering marks printed on progressive lenses.
Detect the near-vision segment on bifocal lenses.

The centering operation requires no specific orientation of the lens in the blocking chamber. Simply place the lens in the centering chamber, and its image is automatically aligned on the prescribed axis and presented in the doctor's view. The center can be seen immediately with the lens displayed in line with the frame. In addition, Kappa CT combines the lens diameter recognition feature with the system's visual warning system to ensure that the lens fits the frame's shape.
  Simplified Blocking
Auto Blocking eliminates cumbersome block loading. Just place the block on the loading post and let Kappa CT do the rest. Computer-controlled blocking arm automatically grasps the lens blocking adapter while the motorized suction head ensures that the lens-blocking adapter is placed in its required position and axis for mounting. The pressure-sensitive blocking arm ensures that even the most fragile lenses will not be damaged.
  Shape Modification
Shape Modifier Software enables customized mounts, provides an optimally-suited lens shape, and enables lens viewing throughout the entire process, so the end result is a more comfortable and precisely fitted eyewear pair that has been controlled throughout the process. The software's flexibility allows the shape to be modified before centering to adapt any drilled or nylon shape or after centering to adjust the fit of the near-vision segment. Different modes include:

Proportional Sizing. Change eye sizes without a pattern or demo lens.
Half B Adjustment. Change either the top or bottom half of the B dimension for a better fit.
Full B Adjustment. Change the entire B dimension for better fit.
Single point. Change any given point for a better fit or shape.

  Kappa CTD Edger and Drill
Kappa CTD Edger and Drill processes all materials-glass, CR39®, hi-index, polycarbonate, and Trivex®, edge polished bevels and flats with unmatched speed and accuracy, and now locates and drills holes for drill mounts.

Drilling Made Easy!
Drilling with Kappa CTD is so easy and fast-it takes only a few seconds to identify the drilling coordinates. The operator simply places the lens and the drill holes. The zoom mode is used to confirm the position and diameters of the drill holes.
With 200 new bar codes fully dedicated to the drilling function, drill-hole positions and diameters are retained in the tracer. A single entry is associated with several frames, so there is no need to enter individual drilling coordinates.

Effortless Edging

The Quick Release Clamp system allows different size chucks to be easily removed and installed in the edger, and a Red Block is available for frame sizes down to 18mm.
Either a direct tracer connection or bar code reader can be used to call down a job and retrieve a shape. Two probes simultaneously map the contours of the lens surfaces to determine lens curvature and edge thickness. This ensures proper lens cutout and optimizes both bevel and groove placement.

Enhanced Software enables faster cycle times, movement of axes, and mapping cycles, improving throughput by as much as 40 percent (cycle times will vary depending on material, option selections such as polishing, beveling, or drilling).

Automatic bevel selection allows Kappa CTD to quickly edge most lenses by calculating optimal bevel placement from the furnished data. A number of customized bevel options are available for more difficult or specialty lenses and may be used for front curve, percentage, or a simple rimless.
Three groove widths ensure an optical fit. Kappa CTD uses a patented grooving design to precisely locate grooves on very thin lenses and three groove widths and depths ensure an optimal fit. Compare groove quality, no other system can track a groove as consistently as the Kappa CTD.

Patented, soft pin beveling feature accommodates all lens sizes including small frames down to 18mm. Soft pin beveling eliminates the need for any manual pin beveling, which reduces lens handling and decreases the potential for spoilage or breakage. With this feature, consistency, control, and quality greatly improve.

And, for those delicate jobs with performance coatings, Kappa CTD offers the exclusive EAS cycle-a special cycle for handling fragile or anti-reflective coated lenses.

Endless Possibilities
Kappa CTD accommodates through and non-through holes, straight or angled notches, vertical, horizontal or angled oblongs. Up to 10 combinations per lens are allowed and extreme diameters down to 0.8 mm will be available soon. These capabilities and combinations allow Kappa CTD to deliver a considerable number of mounts. And if drill mounts need customization, operators can choose unique edge cuts or engrave one-of-a-kind creations.

Quality First

Regardless of the lens material used, the mounting operation always requires minimum effort. Once mounted, the lens' drilling angle is automatically adjusted so that it is perpendicular to the front surface; however, it can be adjusted via an easy to use customization program.
In order to preserve the lens integrity a specific drilling mode is associated with individual materials. The drilling operation is optimized to accommodate the characteristics of each lens material by combining various parameters such as feed and rotation speed.
