The Stratum Lens Coating System
is a self-contained fully automated
system for
applying a
high
performance
scratch resistant
coating to
plastic and polycarbonate
lenses.
Lenses are cleaned,
coated, and
cured in one
uninterrupted cycle.
One
continuous
cycle eliminates
exposure to dust
and dirt and minimizes lens
inspection prior to the
coating phase. |
 |
The result is reduced
lens breakage
and
increased throughput, which
translates into consistently high yields.
Stratum is
available in two configurations:
Stratum,
which dispenses
a single coating type;
and Stratum 2D which offers the same benefits
as
Stratum
plus the capability to
dispense an additional coating. |
 |
Stratum automatically
cleans, coats, and cures at the touch of a button. The operator
simply loads a pair of lenses, then unloads them at the end
of the two-and-a-half minute cycle. If required, Stratum can
process one lens even more quickly. On average, Stratum yields
22 pairs of lenses per hour. |
|
|
 |
Hands-free operation allows the
operator to perform other tasks while lenses are being processed. |
|
|
 |
A built-in display and
easy-to-use keyboard make training fast and effortless. |
|
|
 |
Sophisticated sensors and diagnostics
constantly monitor unit performance. Intelligent software displays
machine status and prompts operators for necessary preventive
maintenance routines. |
|
|
 |
Fluid sensors automatically prompt
operators to replenish cleaning fluids and coatings. |
|
|
 |
State-of-the-art ultra violet (UV)
technology provides predictable and economical bulb life. |
|
|
 |
A user interface prompts the operator
in English, Spanish, or French. |
Integrated Cleaning, Coating,
and Curing
Once the lenses are loaded
into the carousel, high pressure de-ionized or distilled water cleans
them of contaminants. The solventless coating is then applied, and the
lenses move into the UV curing phase. Stratum's innovative method of
holding lenses successfully cures thin centered lenses without
warping. And, since curing is integrated into the entire process,
operator exposure to UV light or chemicals is eliminated.
As a self-contained system, Stratum can
be located in a normal laboratory environment without the need for a
clean room. Internal positive air pressure assists in keeping
environmental dust and dirt out of the unit. Plus, a built-in
filtration system removes airborne contaminants to ensure exceptional
coating results.
Coating Technology
Stratum applies one coating that is
appropriate for all plastic lenses.
Stratum 2D offers laboratories the flexibility to dispense either a
highly tintable coating or a super-hard, non-tintable coating – from
the same machine.
 |
Stratum's high performance,
UV-curable coatings are the result of joint development efforts
between Gerber Coburn and Lens Technology, the world's leading
manufacturer of
ophthalmic coatings. |
|
|
 |
Because the coatings contain
no hazardous or flammable solvents, there is no offensive odor.
Any odors that might be produced during cleaning and curing are
virtually eliminated
via Stratum's special filtering system. |
|
|
 |
Cleaning and coating processes
do not require the use of isopropyl alcohol.
|
|
|
 |
Coating over-spray
is collected in disposable trays and automatically cured into a solid
state that is environmentally safe for disposal. |
