The Kappa SP combines the feature set of the Kappa XL with new software and hardware to make it the most complete lens finishing system on the market today, indicated Michael Urban, product manager, Gerber Coburn.
“The new, 4-D tracing software provides the most efficient frame tracing and lens mapping we offer,” noted Urban. “While we’ve provided the unique 4-D capability on Envoy Tracers and most recently on the Kappa XL, this new revision greatly improves process time required for acquiring the profile of the frame wire groove. This calculation makes the lens-to-frame fit much more precise, reducing any rework.”
“Regarding the edger, not only have we enhanced the software, we’ve beefed-up the hardware by adding a patented, soft pin beveling feature,” he stated. “This new, flexible soft cutting tool enables pin beveling on very thin lenses, high minus or plus curved lenses, and increases the processing range of small diameter lenses. The tool’s malleable nature makes for easy lens processing, so any manual pin beveling is virtually eliminated.”
According to Urban, the soft pin beveling feature helps reduce lens handling, spoilage or breakage while improving control, consistency, and quality.
He went on to explain, “What’s appealing about the enhancements is, they are available on new orders as well as in a SP Upgrade Kit for current Kappa customers. Existing Kappa customers can benefit from the same new technology without significant reinvestment.”
